The number of articles of precious metals, which have been marked with the Convention’s Common Control Mark (CCM), increased from 341,250 articles in 1977 to 25,142,112 in 2002.
However, since 2002, the number has been declining to reach around 7 million articles in 2010. There are various reasons which explain the downturn over the past few years and most seem to be economic (e.g. economic recession, high price for precious metals, demand for low-cost "fashion jewellery").
Detailed yearly statistics on articles marked with the Common Control Mark are available electronically since 1999 and can be downloaded below.
