The number of articles of precious metals, which have been marked with the Convention’s Common Control Mark (CCM), increased from 341,250 articles in 1977 to 25,142,112 in 2002. This is an increase of more than 7,000%!
However, since 2002, the number has been declining to reach 12,484,732 articles in 2008. There are various reasons which explain the downturn over the past few years: some are economic (e.g. severe recession in the jewellery market in the UK); others are due to a change of practice.
